You are standing at the
entrance of the Grand Lobby. Above you are three massive crystal
chandeliers, each weighing
800 pounds. These lights can be lowered to the floor for cleaning and bulb
replacement. The stairs are fine Italian
marble and the walls are done with a process called - scagolia, an Italian
faux marble technique. Chandeliers are original,
refinished by a company in Long Island that specializes in restoration of
old theater lights. Under the theater flows
a small river, called the Great Brook. As you look at this image, if flows
center front under the entrance doors. In order
to install an orchestra pit, the river which is in a culvert 6 feet by 12
feet had to be diverted. Temporary pipes, 5 feet
in diameter had to be installed to carry the stream. |
